Pearl MRV924XEP/C495 Masters Maple Reserve Classic Black Oyster 4-Piece Shell Set

The four-piece Pearl Masters Maple Reserve is made up of a 22-inch by 18-inch bass drum, a 10-inch by 7-inch and 12-inch by 8-inch tom, and a 16-inch by 14-inch floor tom. Unique to this set, are the especially thin shells made from North American maple – the same wood used to provide the much-applauded Masterworks Series drums. This wood is hand-selected to ensure the best possible quality, then put through an extra-long drying process before a tool even touches it. Each of these shells comes finished in a Classic Black Oyster lacquer and finished with chrome-plated hardware.

To keep the shell walls as thin as possible, just four plies of maple have been used, giving them a total weight of 5mm. This has then been strengthened by reinforcement-rings that add a further four plies to the edges and strike a balance between optimum resonance and maximum strength. The wood has been painstakingly lacquered in 38 steps to complete the classic look, and the overall result is an incredibly open and full sound framed by a fat low-end.

Shell Hardware
To pull the best possible sound out these uncommon shells, they’ve been mounted with specialised hardware. So, the Low Mass FatTone hoops have specially welded edges for enhanced stability, and are low-weight to increase sustain and resonance without any loss of projection. The toms are mounted via a single lug using the OptiMount Suspenion System so that no contact is made with the shell for unhindered resonance. To finish, Pearl have pre-installed a set of Remo Clear Ambassador heads on the toms and floor tom, and a Remo Ported Powerstroke 3 head on the kick, and for extra control over the sound of the kick drum, a muffler even comes included.
