The Distressor is undoubtedly the one that got the ball rolling for Empirical Labs and serves as proof of the brand’s passion for vintage compressors. Built using a little DNA taken from the LA-2A and the 1176, the Distressor sounds superbly subtle in 1:1 mode but hard as rock thanks to the “brick wall” limiter in Nuke mode. Defined by its versatility, the EL8x mono compressor is as warm as it is melodious and vintage.
