Yamaha Recording Custom Fusion 4-piece shell set, Surf Green

The Recording Custom drum kits by Yamaha were developed in collaboration with legendary drummer Steve Gadd. In this series, there are three configurations available in four different colours. This set is geared towards rock drummers but is suitable for all genres and music styles. The kit has four shells with a Surf Green finish and does not include cymbals, hardware or a snare drum.

The fusion configuration of this Recording Custom series kit includes relatively small 10 x 7 and 12 x 8-inch toms. Don’t worry about them lacking any volume or depth, however, as the birch shells provide plenty of both. The floor tom is 16 x 15 inches and offers a wide tonal range. The 22 x 18-inch bass drum offers a warm, deep sound with enormous projection. Because the shells are made of birch, the overall pitch will be a little lower than you may expect.

Construction
In the past, shells like the ones in this kit would be made of Japanese birch, but these are made of American birch. Research has shown that the slow-growing American birch offers enhanced resonance. Each shell is made of six layers of laminated wood and features a bearing edge of 30 degrees for an optimal sound. The lugs have also been weighted and enlarged.
