Yamaha’s LS36 ARE is an acoustic western guitar that features high quality down to every detail – quality that you could normally only find in a custom shop. The dynamics and sound balance have reached a new level of excellence with this model, no doubt due to the solid Engelmann spruce top. Light yet strong, this wood provides a lot of volume and a bright, clear sound. The finish is also impressive, thanks to the paper-thin nitrocellulose lacquer that gives this guitar a beautiful glossy finish and an excellent timbre. The lovely fretboard inlays were set by hand, and yes, those are gold-plated tuners (SG-301-Y22).
Yamaha LS36 ARE: neck and bracing
Rosewood and mahogany were both used to form the 5-piece neck that is seamlessly attached to the body with an adjustable truss rod. A subtle volute at the headstock adds even more stability. Yamaha did some work on improving the design of the neck for this LS line. The string spacing, string height, fretboard binding and neck taper have all been designed to offer modern-day traditional guitar players a fully optimised instrument. The design ensures excellent grip and supple playing over the entire length of the fingerboard. Ebony was used for the neck binding, which certainly helped add to both the sound development and the playing comfort, and finally, the lovely mother-of-pearl position markers make the 20-fret fingerboard complete.
Acoustic Resonance Enhancement
To give this guitar optimal resonance and a great sound, Yamaha applied their Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (ARE) technology. This is a carefully controlled process in which temperature, air pressure and moisture are all manipulated to change the molecular level of the wood for the best acoustic properties possible. The result is astounding: the spruce top takes on the characteristics of a vintage instrument. You get a guitar in its prime right out of the box, and can enjoy the clear, open sound at its best for years to come.
