Yamaha’s L series has been going strong for 40 years now, and this LJ26 ARE is an excellent representation of how far the line has come. This handmade western guitar has an attractively curvy LJ body, and its medium-jumbo size makes it perfect for comfortable seated playing. As far as looks are concerned, the LJ26 is based on vintage models from the best Yamaha tradition, and we can see this in classy details such as gold-plated tuners. When it comes to sound, this guitar produces an open, warm intonation accompanied by outstanding comfort and playability. Excellent for playing solo or in a band, this instrument has been perfected to a tee.
Yamaha LJ26 ARE: construction and finish
The five-piece neck of the LJ26 is made of mahogany and rosewood, and its stable construction won’t easily twist or warp. Additionally, a volute has been added to the connection point between the neck and headstock for even more stability. Furthermore, the 20-fret ebony fingerboard is comfortable to play and has a very snappy response, compared with the coarser grains of rosewood. Luxurious abalone inlays, a tortoise shell pickguard and an ebony bridge make this guitar a beautiful sight to behold, and thanks to the modified interior bracing system, the LJ26 ARE offers beautiful bass frequencies while still maintaining excellent transparency.
Acoustic Resonance Enhancement
Yamaha added a big dose of technology to the development of the LJ26. By way of Acoustic Resonance Enhancement, a new piece of Engelmann spruce was enhanced to take on the superior sound characteristics of vintage wood. The ARE process involves mixing up a precise cocktail of temperature, air pressure and moisture in order to change the molecular makeup of the wood. This means that the LL16 ARE comes out of the box with the full, rich tone of a vintage guitar, that you’d typically have to wait for years to develop. This outstanding Yamaha has a great sound, excellent playability, and comes with a soft case.
