The potent thinking-cap of the modelling preamp fitted in the APX1200 is Yamaha’s own Studio Response Technology (SRT). The amplified sound of any average electro-acoustic guitar is simply registered by a pickup. Here, the super-smart SRT system places the acoustic sound in a virtual studio with a virtual microphone sitting at the sound hole. Using the range of microphone simulations offered by this advanced preamp system, the resonance, dynamics, and nuance of this instrument consistently shines.

The System62 Preamp: Flexible Tone
The System63 preamp offers simulations of three highly renowned microphones: the Neumann U67, Neumann KM56 and the Royer R-122. Once you’ve selected your microphone, the virtual positioning can be adjusted using the Focus and Wide pots. Find your preferred balance between the physical built-in piëzo pickup of the APX1200 and the selected microphone simulation using the Blend pot. The natural acoustic presence of the guitar can be enhanced with the Resonance pot and, of course, you’re offered a volume control and a three-band equaliser to customise the resulting sound in detail. Space has even been made for a digital tuner complete with bright LED indicators to guide you back to pitch when you’re all alone on a dark stage, while the Auto Feedback Reduction function quietly guards against any possible feedback.

The comfortably thin resonance chamber, fast-feeling neck, and a considerate cutaway that allows easy access to each of the 22 frets, give the Yamaha APX1200 its almost compulsive playability.
