Mapex SE426XHPB Saturn Evolution Hybrid Rock Piano Black 3-Piece Shell Set

Departing from the norm, Mapex combine shells made of different woods to offer up a genuinely ‘hybrid’ set. The toms included in this three-piece have been built from birch and walnut to ensure a distinctly modern, dry punch, while the kick drum has been made from a maple and walnut combo for a warm and complex, layered response. In short, the Saturn Evolution Hybrid Rock SE426XHPB set manages to smoothly mash-up the best of both possible worlds.

The configuration of this shell set sits somewhere between fusion and rock, so the kick drum is a slightly-smaller 20-inches by 16-inches, while the rack tom is 12 by 8-inches, and the floor tom a standard 16 by 16-inches. Each shell has been finished with hardware from the special SONIClear Attenuation System (or SAS for short), which has been specifically designed to keep the full sound of each shell intact while supporting optimum resonance.

The included upgrade of the Halo tom mounting system is able to distribute the shell tension more evenly than standard mounting systems, so that the tom is able to resonate more freely, and meanwhile, the floor tom comes kitted out with unique legs, finished with a neat 90° bend and rubber, Sonic Pedestal feet, all designed to retain maximum resonance. Another important detail when it comes to the sound and feel of this set, is the Air Flow ventilation ports that have been strategically integrated according to the size and make-up of each shell (a process referred to by Mapex as ‘Chamber Specific’), to pull the optimum response and playing feel out of each shell while maintaining its integrity.
