While a lot of electronic kits might leave you wanting that pure acoustic drum kit feel and response, the incomparable Roland V-Drums VAD506 Acoustic Design kit does precisely the opposite. Developed and configured to mimic an acoustic kit in terms of look and feel, as well as sound, this future-thinking kit comes with deep shells and a setup that’s definitely not designed for quiet little home-rehearsals that won’t bug the neighbours. So, what can you expect from the Roland VAD506 Acoustic Design kit? On the face of it: a 5-piece kit, complete with wooden shells and a double-braced hardware pack. Which … is true: a 10, 12, and 14-inch tom, a 14-inch snare and a 20-inch kick come included. But this is the PD-140DS digital snare and KD-200-MS Digital kick drum, and while each shell has been wrapped in a Midnight Sparkle finish, we’ve only covered the looks.

The Roland TD-27
Besides the shell-set, you get a 14-inch crash and a 16-inch crash-ride, but the cymbal pad that really steals the show is the outstanding 18-inch CY-18DR ride. This multi-sensor triggered cymbal has an unbelievable dynamic range alongside incredibly accurate input detection. The whole kit is driven by the Roland TD-27 sound module which, in turn, is driven by ‘Prismatic Sound Modeling’ – a ‘neural’ configuration lifted from the flagship TD-50 module.

Utterly Modern
What else can you expect? Well, since Roland seemingly designed this kit for the future, it comes with further features like Bluetooth so that audio can be streamed from a smartphone or computer. Your own WAV samples can be imported from an SD card and, since the VAD506 also comes with an integrated 18-channel USB audio interface, you have a professional-grade recording and performing machine under your sticks.
