Yamaha CP88

Roland’s CP88 is a professional stage piano with 57 sounds on board including grand pianos, electric pianos, organs, strings and synths. It has 88 natural wood, graded-hammer keys that offer the authentic feel of an acoustic piano thanks to the special weight distribution and three sensors per key. There are three different grand piano sounds among those found in the piano section. Other sounds can be found under the keyboard or sub voice sections. The CP88 is designed to be easy to use and comes in a robust aluminium housing.

Each sound section has its own controls allowing you to scroll quickly through all the available instruments, for example. The piano section also has controls for adjusting split points, octaves and damper resonance as well as the volume and depth of each sound. With the electric piano controls you can adjust things like drive, tremolo, pan, wah, and phaser, chorus and flanger settings. Organs, strings and synths can all be found under the sub voice section and, once again, there are controls you can use to adjust different effects. Another section gives you control over delay and reverb, and there’s also a masterEQ section with low, mid and high controls. As if all that isn’t enough, you can also make use of two joysticks to control pitch bend and modulation.

Plenty of Connectors
It’s not just the sounds and effects that are professional level on the CP88 digital piano, the connectors are too. On the back, there are balanced XLR outputs as well as standard line outputs. There are also line inputs that can be used to connect external audio equipment for mixing audio with piano sounds. There are jack sockets for adding two pedals and two footswitches with assignable functionality that can be saved as presets. There’s also a USB-to-host connector that can be used for audio or MIDI applications with a computer or an iOS device. Settings can be saved to or loaded from a USB stick too. There’s even a place to install a separately-available sheet music stand.
